A festival celebrating the music and artistic vision of Iris ter Schiphorst

Always deeply connected to her audience, Iris ter Schiphorst combines political awareness with poetic force, sensual sound worlds and radical formal experimentation. After classical piano training, she left the traditional path at an early age, playing electric bass in punk, New Wave and funk bands. Through her own writing, and inspired by encounters with figures such as Dieter Schnebel and Luigi Nono, she found her way into contemporary music.

In 2026, the Zafraan Ensemble celebrates her multifaceted artistic vision with EDEN CINEMA, a festival presenting a representative cross-section of her instrumental music.

Across three concerts, a multimedia-poetic portrait accompanied by a new publication and recordings, artist talks, discussions and silent films for which Iris ter Schiphorst composed the music, the festival opens up the many different worlds of her work.

A particular highlight is the performance of HYPER-DUB, featuring Dirk von Lowtzow, frontman of the band Tocotronic, performing his text together with the ensemble.
